About Us

A project of TOHU, the MICC (Marché international de cirque contemporain/International Market of Contemporary Circus) constitutes North America’s most important single-discipline professional encounter for the field of contemporary circus.

The MICC Annual Market, an unforgettable four-day professional encounter held each July during the MONTRÉAL COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE Festival in Montréal, brings together key players involved in the creation, presentation, and touring of contemporary circus. The MICC Annual Market offers North American, European, and other international presenters from all disciplines a one-stop research opportunity to discover and connect with touring artists and works from Canada and around the world.

Glimpse the MICC Annual Market (2017 edition):

In 2020, the COVID pandemic saw the MICC’s pivot into the virtual space. The MICC online launched with a virtual Annual Market from July 6 to 9, 2020--the first arts market of any discipline to be realized 100% virtually during the pandemic—and created a year-round membership option.

The MICC now boasts over 650 members from 44 countries and continues its work year-round by organizing regular online activities such as pitch sessions of contemporary circus projects; working group meetings; panel discussions; and networking activities.

Now established as both a year-round professional community and an unmissable annual gathering, the MICC offers the artists, companies, and professionals of our discipline a versatile and responsive platform aimed at catapulting contemporary circus to the forefront of the global touring performing arts while supporting and connecting our members through unprecedented times.

MICC Goals

  • Support and promote the development of circus arts on the international scene.
  • Encourage artist-presenter encounters, discussions, and opportunities.
  • Develop North American networks for the presentation and touring of contemporary circus.
  • Raise the profile of creative artists in Canada.
  • Ensure the place of contemporary circus in the recovery and relaunch of performing arts presenting and touring post-pandemic.
  • Harness the opportunities of the virtual space to expand the MICC community to all world regions, facilitating international relationship-building and reciprocal awareness and reducing barriers to access.
